The White Star in Cavan town has always been a very popular bar focusing on providing quality service and good music. Traditionally this has happened within a ground floor area. However; the potential to capitalise upon quality dining initiated the owner Philip Sheridan to consider utilising a first floor area hitherto unused.

Very keen to maintain the gothic imagery which was current on the ground floor and” worked a treat” our instruction from the client was to provide access to the first floor immediately visible from the main entrance and to create a restaurant and bar interior that quickly transforms for a strong night time trade.

We produced a staircase in ash with mild steel forged balustrade extending from ground floor to first floor level through a full size void at the front of the building. This allowed us to make a feature of this new found height which we did with the introduction of an engineered stone wall that has an impressive gothic naved window with cathedral glass detail rear lit. To accentuate the perspective three huge gothic lanterns were suspended in the main entrance area and an oak and decorative glass screen was formed in front of a now exposed first floor window. This provides an introduction to the new restaurant and a feeling of spatial awareness. The restaurant / bar level has been afforded a treatment that oozes style and comfort. The finishes are a chic combination of dark oak and walnut timber finishes complemented by rich creams and greys. The seating is a combination of faux hide and boutique luxury velvet. The ceiling is punctuated by recessed lighting bays. These are lit by concealed R.G.B. Led which is programmed to provide subtle mood changes for restaurant use and dramatic effect during the night time.

Amongst the technological highlights we have installed an audio system that is digitally programmed to provide a warm, relaxed background facility for the restaurant and a really stonkin club type sound during the evening. This is operator friendly and when set up (to client requirement) cannot be tampered with. The opening night for The White Star underlined the success of this design package, with regular clientele suitably impressed with the changes in space and comfort without the sacrifice of familiar territory.
