January 2007
This was a turnkey package with the interiors produced in a “fast track” programme giving the hand over to the client in six weeks.
The project entailed the design and fit out of three very different areas which, when in operation would complement each other both aesthetically and commercially.
The “front of house” bar area is designed to offer the charm of a traditional market town hostelry; with the use of period wallpapers, dark oak solid timbers and real hide furniture. These welcoming elements are comforting for customers who stray into the pub for a friendly pint or a morning coffee and scone in front of the fire.
Whilst there is no physical divide between the lounge area and the front bar the design concept is completely different.
Here you will find “state of the art” materials blended to make an eclectic mix of stimulating colour and form. The back bar stillion is formed from an engineered stone which has glittering particles of glass embedded in it. This is over lit showing this feature to its best advantage. The bar counter front is finished with an “antiqued leather” look plaster. Artisans specialising in plastering techniques made popular by Italians in bygone times applied this. We used wall coverings which are a little bit “kitsch” just to add a little bit of fun to the overall appeal of this area. Concealed lighting haloes the ceiling spaces and is digitally controlled to provide changes of mood and atmosphere at the touch of a button. Lighting plays a vital role in all of our projects and is no less evident in The Black Horse. Here it links the front bar and lounge area, providing stimulus for every conceivable occasion. The audio system designed and fitted is once again customised to provide our client with the type of music he requires at any time with ease of operation. Powered by a computerised hard drive, this can be pre-programmed to offer anything from traditional music to easy listening and current chart material all automatically selected for various times of the day.
The bar food and restaurant side of the business has always been paramount to The Black Horse. So with this in mind we have created a restaurant that indeed complements this ethos. Minimalist and chic the restaurant has a retro 70`s appeal which completes The Black Horse experience. Areas of interest include the beautiful chrysanthemum mirrored wall panel with its constantly colour changing appeal; the use of Zebra wood and fine silk drapes to soften the overall effect and luxurious wall coverings to add atmosphere.
The Black Horse provides an answer to all situations; traditional comfort, stimulating surroundings, good food, all under one roof.
The Black Horse definitely “A horse of a different colour”.
